U13 Football 2009

Fingallians footballers finished their 2008 season on a high, topping the league by a comfortable margin. We competed in two competitions last year, Football Cup and Football League. We finished 3rd. in the Cup showing improvement throughout the games. Starting the league strongly, Fins recorded good wins against the opposing teams, winning 9 of their 10 matches and losing only once in a close game. The team finished the U12 league with 18 of the possible 20 points. League winners’ medals were presented to the players at the awards night on Dec 5th.

We aim to be as successful in 2009 while moving up through the divisions for competitive games. More demanding games will help our players to up their game individually and gel together as a team. We need all players to attend training and matches to achieve this. All matches are play or concede and cannot be deferred due to lack of players.

This year will see a lot of changes in our games; we play full rules on a full sized pitch with teams of 15 players.

There will be no Cup or Championship competitions at U13 this year. The focus is on the League, with grading games initially. These will be followed by the league proper. The 2009 fixtures will see us play against teams from all over Dublin, as both North and South side clubs compete in the same league. Games will usually be on Saturday afternoons, with some Wednesday evening fixtures. All matches are play or concede. We will arrange challenge games where there is a gap in the fixtures

Grading GamesThe season started with Grading games to assess the abilities of the teams, and especially to compare the North side against the South side clubs as they had never played against each other before. We were placed in Div. 8 for these games, and had to prove that we deserved promotion. The team rose to this challenge and topped the table with maximum points and a huge score difference. This made a great case for us to look for promotion.
